FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THE WALES HOME’S THERAPEUTIC GARDEN - Quebec Winner!
CLEVELAND, Quebec (January 25th, 2011) - The Résidence Wales Home has been chosen as one of the prestigious winners in the Aviva Insurance Community Fund. The construction of The Wales Home Alzheimer’s therapeutic garden will soon be underway!
For months now, The Résidence Wales Home, a private, not for profit organization which provides quality care to senior citizens, has been actively competing in the Aviva Insurance Community Fund competition. This Canada-wide competition provides one million dollars in funding for projects which have a fundamental impact on the community at large. Yesterday morning, the Wales Home received the much anticipated phone call from the panel of AVIVA Community Fund judges, announcing the Wales Home as one of their winners. AVIVA officially announced its finalists on CTV News, Canada AM this morning at 8 AM. The Résidence Wales Home is proud to announce that their project was selected as a winner among an initial 1724 projects!
Today, half a million Canadians suffer from Alzheimer's disease or related dementias, and these statistics are ever-increasing. The Aviva Community Fund will subsidize the Résidence Wales Home $97 000.00 towards the creation of a therapeutic garden which will support the needs of Alzheimer’s patients, its care providers, family members and friends, with a Milieu de Vie environment. The Aviva Community Fund will provide those who are touched by this disease in our community with a manageable way of coping and provide an appreciation that life does not stop with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. The Wales Home wishes to have the Federal Government recognize its Therapeutic Garden as a Best Practice.
Once the initial cost of launching this garden has been achieved, the cost of maintenance will be minimal and will have a huge impact on the quality of life for those suffering from Alzheimer’s, as well as a place where family and community friends can join together to support and care for these clients. On behalf of the Executive Committee, employees and residents, I would like to personally express our sincere heartfelt THANK YOU for those who supported our project throughout the competition and who believe in our mission! We wish to congratulate all other finalists.
