WALES HOME FOUNDATION

The Wales Home Foundation was created in 1991 for the sole purpose of helping to maintain the high level of quality care and the services offered, and to ensure that the essential needs of the people living the residence are filled regardless of their financial resources.

The Wales Home Foundation also provides funding for major capital improvements such as medical equipment and improvements made to the building. The Wales Home Foundation is very fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who contribute to our Home and Foundation. Without the support of the community, the Home would not survive.

How to give?

A wonderful way to support the Wales Home is to make a donation in your name to the Wales Home Foundation. We are thankful for all donations, which help to keep The Wales Home afloat.

Bequest
A bequest is money that is left to The Wales Home as a part of a person’s estate. Bequests can be indicated in the donor’s will.
In Memoriam
Donations can be made to the Wales Home Foundation on behalf of someone else. This means that a person can make a donation to honour the memory of a loved one. The Wales Home will then send a card to whoever is specified to let them know the donation has been made.

A message from our campaign chairman

Wales home Foundation seniors residence foundation canadaMost of Canada’s seniors move into what may sometimes be called an “Old Folks Homes” to live out their lives, hopefully in a happy and secure environment.

Many are owned, operated and financially supported by the Government. The Wales Home, from it’s inception around 1920 has been a private “Old Folks Home”, receiving almost no government financing, while providing exceptional care and comfort to the residents here. To remain privately owned and operated, considerable financial support is needed from the community.

The Wales Home Foundation was established to channel financial support from the citizens of the Community. All year, every year, fundraising and public awareness initiatives are undertaken by people volunteering their time and efforts to feed the “piggy bank” (The Foundation). Maintaining the facility in good condition along with the services we provide depends on there being “money in the bank”!!

Citizens bequeaths to The Wales Home Foundation from estates have been and must continue to be an important source of support.

As Chairman of the fundraising campaigns in 2007 through 2010, I encourage people of all ages to consider our elders in their gifting plans.

Nils Bodtker, Campaign Chairman of the Wales Home Foundation

LAUNCH OF THE 2011 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

Our annual campaign launch will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2011 at 2 PM in the living room at the Wales Home.

After achieving a long sought-after accreditation, the Wales Home ranks among the best Homes in Quebec. Many meaningful improvements have been attained in the past year contributing to our success! However, your financial support is crucial in our efforts to ensure the Wales Home can continue to serve seniors in a superior fashion.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Allan Banfill, who worked tirelessly over many years, to serve the residents of the Wales Home as a volunteer, who died suddenly early in 2009. In the true community spirit, pioneered by the late Horace P. Wales to establish the Wales Home, Mr. Banfill has secured his legacy by directing in his final will a substantial donation to the Wales Home Foundation. Included were the proceeds of a life insurance policy –this is a win/win situation with regards to charitable giving and reduced taxation of an estate upon death.

Please think “GENEROSITY” as you consider your donation this year, and again, Thank you very much for helping raise the bar in last year’s campaign to a very robust $400,000!!”

The Wales Home holds its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament

On Thursday, September 17th, 2009, The Wales Home Foundation held their 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at The Longchamps Golf Couse in Sherbrooke. The tournament began with two long-time golfers and current residents of the Wales Home; George Lovett and Armand Rivard, teeing off on hole #1.

144 Participants enjoyed perfect weather, great golf, a fabulous steak supper, and an entertaining auction animated by David Crack – everyone had a great day. The honorary chairman; Bertrand Menard awarded prizes to the winners of the longest drive, closest to the pin, the winners of the tournament (with a score of -9) and the most honest. Participants also had a chance to win a Toyota Maxtrix (Richmond) and a Kubota utility-vehicle (Sherbrooke) for a hole in one.

“This year’s goal was set at $40 000” said David Crack, Chairman of the Wales Home Finance Committee. “We are thrilled to learn that our net profit was over $42 000!”

Brendalee Piironen, Director of Operation and David Crack both credit much of the success of the tournament to the honorary chairman, Bertrand Menard.
